From the beginning of Darkest Dungeon, you learn that you inherited an estate from a relative. This happens while you were seeking fame and also fortune by excavating the dungeons and some catacombs. There you unearthed portals to dark dimensions and unfortunately released evil creatures into the world. Now you are the current owner of the estate and also the owner of surroundings lands.
